What do you know?

Mark 12:24

“Jesus answered and said to them, ‘Are you not therefore mistaken, because you do not know the Scriptures nor the power of God?”

This question is a dividing line in the body of Christ, in the whole world in fact. Think about what Jesus said and to whom He said it. These were the Sadducees- religious leaders of Israel- and Jesus said they did not know the Scriptures nor the power of God. This is astounding because they made their it their life’s work to know the Scriptures. They knew them so well in fact that they could recite Genesis to Malachi without picking up a scroll!! They also touted their knowledge of the power of God- after all it was their ancestors that came through the flood, walked through the Red Sea, had 40 years of supernatural provision, etc. They thought that they “knew” the power of God and yet Jesus said they did not! Notice that what leads a person to being mistaken is not knowing the Scriptures nor the power of God.

This question bares heavy implications in the world and the body of Christ today for the same reasons. The world does not know neither the Scriptures nor the power of God because they choose to remain in darkness. Therefore they are mistaken. As well, some joints in the body of Christ pride themselves, as the Sadducees here did,  upon “Knowing” the Scriptures and the power of God. yet, the word for “Know” here refers to knowing because it has been revealed by God to you personally. Anyone, including parrots and the devil can recite Scripture and tell of all the wondrous and miraculous acts of the ancient days, but until those Scriptures are made alive to a person personally by the Spirit of God, then that person does not “know” them. Likewise, the power of God can be spoken about in tales of old but until someone experiences it for themselves, they cannot possibly really “know” that power. They simply know about the power or the Scripture. Therefore if you do not wish to be mistaken, then you must ask the Lord to make you to know the Scriptures personally and you must be willing to manifest the Power of God as He has promised for those who believe!
