As I was studying this morning, the Holy Spirit spoke to my heart about what Jesus said on the cross. So often, because He is Jesus, we do not realize that He had to walk by faith too. He had to trust that God would raise Him from the dead like He said He would. What an amazing thing. So the Holy Spirit said to me that what Jesus said on the cross in the following two verses was the mouth of the flesh:
Matthew 27:46
"46 And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, "Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?" that is, "My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?”
Mark 15:34
"34 And at the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, "Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?" which is translated, "My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?”
This is the exact moment that Jesus was made sin and because of that, the Lord could not look upon Him. The world was dark. Then Jesus responded out of the only thing He had at the time which was His flesh- His humanity. This is the way of the flesh. The flesh does not realize that God has not forsaken us because He turned His back on our sin when it was on Jesus. The flesh feels the “darkness” and immediately responds the same way Jesus did. “Why have you left me God? Why don’t I see you or see the manifestation of you in this situation?” That is how you know you are in the flesh. Jesus died just after saying this and of course was resurrected by God on the third day so it’s not exactly the same thing. The point is that our flesh is aware of things superficially and our spirit - spiritually. Jesus could not access the Father spiritually at this point because He had become sin and then dying He died. When we hear ourselves speak words similar to those of our Lord and savior Jesus Christ we must command our flesh to silence and walk in the Spirit so that we speak in the Spirit. God resurrected Jesus so that we could live in the Spirit - we must live in the Spirit and not engage the mouth of the flesh.
