The Flood

 Revelation 12:15- 17

“So the serpent spewed water out of his mouth like a flood after the woman, that he might cause her to be carried away by the flood. But the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened its mouth and swallowed up the flood which the dragon had spewed out of his mouth, And the dragon was enraged with the woman, and he went to make war with the rest of her offspring, who keep the commandments of God and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.”

“water”- Greek #5204- hydor- Can of course mean water but figuratively means “many peoples.”

Isaiah 59:19

"9 So shall they fear The name of the LORD from the west, And His glory from the rising of the sun; When the enemy comes in like a flood, The Spirit of the LORD will lift up a standard against him.”

It is interesting that Revelation 12 speaks of the devil coming against the woman- Mary- like a flood. This notion of  “a flood” is more easily understood when using the figurative meaning of the word flood as illustrated above. The word “flood” is more poignant when thought of as a large group of people instead of a large amount of water. We can see then that the wicked one sent an innumerable company of humans against “Mary” - the mother of the Christ and when she was not overtaken, then he went to make war with all of her offspring who keep the word of Christ. This will make more sense when we think of the attack of the wicked one against virginity, sexual purity, marriage, etc. Thus, we can see that the devil attacked  anyone who might fulfill the prophecies given of the Messiah prior to His birth. This is why there was Sodom and Gomorrah, why homosexuality and whoredom, etc.

Further, Revelation 12 indicates that the wicked one was so angry that he couldn’t stop Jesus from manifesting that he went to make war with anyone who keeps the word of Christ. Yet in Isaiah 59, God has given those who keep this word a prophecy that is a promise- The Spirit of the Lord will raise up a standard against the enemy when he comes in like a flood. This is a very interesting thought because the word translated as “standard” here is actually not what we assume. The word that is translated as “standard” is the Hebrew word #5127- “nuwc”- it means to disappear or to be invisible.

What is more astounding is that we see exactly this promise manifesting in the ministry of Jesus Christ our Lord when He repeatedly escapes the threats of death or of improper glory by those around Him. This takes place in:

    John 6:15

    John 7:30

    John 7:44

    John 8:59

    John 10:39

    Luke 4:30

In all of the above instances, Jesus was in a crowd of people that were either coming against Him to kill Him or coming against the will of God in His life to make it manifest in a natural way instead of a supernatural way. Thus, we can see a clear fulfillment of prophecy that when either of these things happen to us {because it is no longer we who live, but Christ who lives in us} we too will be able to literally disappear out of the site of those would be God will killers.

Learn these two truths from this lesson:

First, the devil only makes war with the offspring of Mary who keep the commandments of God and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.

Second, when the devil makes this war with you from all sides like a flood that would overtake you because you are God’s and keeping His word and will, then the Spirit of the Living God will raise up a standard that will make you invisible to those who would do the devils work in your life!!!
