Only unforgiven sin brings sickness and death

John 9:1

"1 Now as [Jesus] passed by, He saw a man who was blind from birth.”

-Either Jesus or His disciple personally knew this man-or- Jesus had a word of knowledge from the Holy One. Otherwise, there would have been no way that they would know he was born blind. ie: He would have just been a blind man that they passed by.

John 9:2-3 (a)

2 And His disciples asked Him, saying, "Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?" 3 Jesus answered, "Neither this man nor his parents sinned…"

-Romans 3:23 states that all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. Yet, here Jesus said that neither the parents nor the son sinned. He meant that their sins- whatever they were- were already atoned for and therefore nonexistent according to God. The reason for the man’s birth defect is therefore not a direct result from his families or his personal sin but a result from sin in the world as an institution.

As well, there was no punctuation in the original text of the Scriptures and so the punctuation was a result of the translators deciding where and what it needed to be. Therefore in order to square the scriptures with the heart, character and will of God, verse 3 should have ended where I have indicated above. Jesus makes a new statement in the second half of verse 3 after answering the disciple’s initial question.

The most important thing to remember here is that it is only unforgiven sin that causes sickness and malfunction. At the time Jesus stated that neither this man nor his parents had sinned, the Old Testament law of atonement was still in effect. The law of atonement at that time had a shelf life of one year. After that, the sacrifices had to be repeated. Nevertheless, God still counted the people’s belief that their sins were taken care of for righteousness. This side of the cross, all sin for all mankind for all time has been forgiven. The problem is that people do not believe that their sins have been forgiven and so they allow themselves to accept and remain in sin and lack. Once they themselves believe and accept that all sin of theirs and everyone’s has been forgiven,  then they do not have to put up with sickness, disease, malfunction, etc. in their lives since the personal and global cause of sickness and disease has been eliminated.
