James 5:9a
"9 Do not grumble against one another, brethren, lest you be condemned."
Remember the word of our Lord Jesus Christ who admonished to be careful how we judge because how we judge is how we will be judged-Matt 7:2. This verse is reiterating that command. To "grumble"- as it is defined here- is to groan, express grief, anger, or desire. From stenos; to make in straits, i.e. to sigh, murmur, pray inaudibly. This is a profound admonition, one that I have-not followed carefully and have absolutely reaped the consequences of. The word "condemned" here means to punish or be tried. In other words, when we complain either out loud or otherwise, to humans or to God about a brother, we open the door to the wicked one to bring the temptation on us that would cause us to behave in the same way. Adhering to this course of action could revolutionize our lives!! What we would fail to be tempted with if only we wouldn't grumble!!!
