How to begin

Proverbs 9:10

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the holy one is understanding.”

The fear of the Lord actually refers to obeying the Lord. This verse says that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. That means that when you obey the Lord it’s the beginning of wisdom; in other words you have to hear the Lord first so that you know what to obey. The next line in the verse says and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. This verse clearly shows that when you need wisdom and understanding for something; to know how to do something ;to know which path to take, you first have to hear God then you have to obey Him. This is also written as fearing Him. Then it says “the knowledge of the Holy One”, this doesn’t refer simply to Knowing about God or knowing of God. It actually means the knowledge that God himself has about any given situation. We gain understanding when we understand what God understands. We gain understanding when we know what God knows. God knows everything and so when we put ourselves in a position to know everything about a thing then we completely understand it. But we can’t manifest any of the kingdom of heaven any of the hundredfold fruit if we don’t first obey the Lord. This verse has been used to teach people to get saved and that is a very true and accurate application of this verse; but it’s a very broad application of this verse. To make the verse more acute, we can understand that this can be used for any situation and for any understanding that we might need. This means if we need wisdom or understanding about a certain situation we hear God about the situation and then we act on what we hear. This is the fear of the Lord, but this is just the beginning of wisdom. Obeying God it’s just barely the beginning because He’s going to reveal to us more knowledge that He has about the situation that we can act on because now we will have understanding. Thus, obeying God is the beginning of the process not the end of the process.
