Proverbs 8:9
" 9 They [are] all plain to him who understands, And right to those who find knowledge.”
How strange it seems that the words of wisdom, the words of God would be plain and right to those who understand and find knowledge. It would make more sense to our natural minds that the words of wisdom are what gives us understanding and knowledge of what is right. However, examine this verse from a different perspective. The Word says that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge {Proverbs 1:7a} So if we have the fear of the Lord, we have found knowledge. Of course we do not immediately know everything there is to know about everything in our natural minds the instant we become saved, but we do receive the mind of Christ. Because we gain the mind of Christ, we can discern righteously and rightly divide between what wisdom is saying to us and what the voice of the flesh and the devil say to us. For we are equipped with the fear of God upon salvation according to Isaiah 11:2.
Isaiah 11:2
" 2 The Spirit of the LORD shall rest upon Him, The Spirit of wisdom and understanding, The Spirit of counsel and might, The Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD.”
Furthermore, Proverbs 9:10 states that “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding,” and here again in Isaiah 11:2, we find that we are given the Spirit of wisdom and understanding. It is also understood that this phrase “The knowledge of the Holy One…” is at first presented in the context that because have received salvation, we now “know” the Holy One and then as we mature in Him, we gain His knowledge.
In conclusion, it is because the Lord bestows upon us His Holy Spirit at salvation which is the Spirit of the fear of the Lord, the Spirit of wisdom, and understanding, that we are able to console ourselves with the fact that we now discern the words of wisdom as plain and right when they come to our ears.
