Genesis 3:17
“Then to Adam He said, ‘Because you have heeded the voice your wife, and have eaten from the tree of which I commanded you, saying, ‘You shall not eat of it’: Cursed is the ground for your sake; in toil you shall eat of it all the days of your life.”
Romans 8:19-20
“For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God. For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly but because of Him who subjected it in hope, because creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.”
In the first verse I have chosen, we see to what the second passage is referring. When Adam disobeyed God, the earth itself was also cursed because Adam had authority over the earth. Thus, everything that Adam had authority over - or that was his in practice- was cursed. The reason I have selected these two passages is to direct your attention that earth, ground, foliage, created terra firma are under the curse of the fall. This is why they all die, wither, brown, etc. However, Galatians 3:13 states that Jesus Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law. The law simply means the law of God and includes the Mosaic law but is more accurately described as anything God has told humans to do or not do. Therefore, since Jesus has redeemed us from the curse of the law and we now have authority over the earth, everything that we have authority over has also been redeemed from the curse of the law. In short, because of Jesus’ finished work on the cross, all creation waits for the revealing of the sons of God. Meaning that all of the vegetation, animals, and earth itself groan, begging for the sons of God- us- to command it to return to the state of perfection it was created to be in! I know it sounds a little silly, but it is very important that you speak to the land upon which you live, the animals you care for and tell them that they are to behave and grow and prosper in the same way we are. This is being a good steward of what God has given us authority over and manifests the redemption of his creation in real time!
