Mark 7:15-
“There is nothing that enters a man from outside which can defile him; but the things which come out of him, those are the things that defile a man."
Mark 7:20-
“And He {Jesus} said, ‘What comes out of a man, that defiles a man. For from within, out of the heart of men proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lewdness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness. All these evil things come from within and defile a man.’”
This verse is astounding because it implies that the man is not defiled because these things are within him. Instead, the implication here is that the defiling only comes when these things come out of the man’s mouth. Jesus says “therefore take no thought saying…”
{Matthew 6:31}. When we take a thought is when we “say” a thought out loud. Thus it is when this man speaks out the things listed above that he becomes “defiled”. Further, the Word states that death and life are in the power of the tongue. Thus, when someone speaks about these things, it gives them life, they are then created things. It is not until someone speaks about them, however. The speaking brings about the acting. The issue is that most people believe that any thought they hear inside their minds is a thought that they themselves have. Very few informed individuals are astute enough to recognize that some of the thoughts are from God, or some from the wicked one. It takes exercising of the senses to be able to discern good and evil. {Hebrews 5:14} and make a distinction regarding the source of a thought.
I recently was in a situation where a horse was panicking behind me whilst I was leading her, and I heard a cuss word in my head. I whispered the first part of the word and then immediately told God I was sorry. I then told God that I “knew” that there were still some cuss words in my heart because one had just come out of my mouth. I therefore repented and asked Him to get rid of all of them so they wouldn’t come out again, I prayed thusly because I have been taught that out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks… which is true. So if a cuss word came out then there must have been an “abundance” of cuss words in my heart. The Lord corrected me.
He said, that at salvation He made me clean and sin free- meaning that He removed all cuss words. He further stated to me that I am clean and that the cuss word I heard in my head was from the wicked one. I, however had the choice whether or not I was going to let it slip past my lips. He began tweaking my theology in terms of our Lord Jesus’ statement “Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.” However, I will conclude this lesson tomorrow in regard to what that means in particular…..
To be continued……..
