Proverbs 11:2
{NKJV}- “When pride comes, then comes shame; but with the humble is wisdom.
Pride is a very unique thing. Sometimes pride isn’t what we think it is. Sometimes pride is more obvious to those with sensitive spiritual perception but not at all obvious to those engaged in it. This manifestation of pride is evidenced in “doing what we think is right.” I have been saved for a very long time, probably since I was three years old. However, as soon as I was old enough to make decisions, all of the decisions that I made were things I thought were good ideas at the time. Basically, I wanted to do what I wanted to do, and I wasn’t about to let what the Bible said get in the way of that! For instance, the Bible very clearly states that we need to take heed what we hear, and yet I was allowing myself to hear all kinds of things. Like commercials telling me that at a certain age, it was natural for me to have health problems. Or music telling me it was acceptable to cheat on, leave, or even harm my husband if he “deserved it”! I did nothing to stop listening to these things and so, I was in general a sick and mean person! Even though it doesn’t seem like it, I was acting in pride! I was acting in pride because I did not humble myself to do what God said instead of what I wanted to do. This is prideful!!!
Anytime that we do not do what God has instructed us to do, we are acting in pride and every time we do this, we will have the feeling of shame. So how do we make sure that we are always acting in humility? The answer is found in this same verse more clearly stated in the Septuagint:
“ Wherever pride enters, there will be also disgrace; but the mouth of the lowly meditates wisdom.”
Proverbs 2:6 says that God gives wisdom so the way that we keep ourselves in check is to meditate- or mutter under our breath the word of God!!! This sentiment and law is echoed in Psalm 1:2-3 and in Joshua 1:8. The way to stay humble is to meditate the word !!! Mutter it when you are alone or with someone, when you get up when you sit down, when you come home and when you go out and you will stay humble and kind!!!
