Matthew 1:20
"20 But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. Matt. 1:20- God answers our questions while we are still thinking about them!”
Here Joseph was contemplating hiding pregnant Mary away in order to save her reputation. He was a good man and was putting her feelings before his. Can you imagine becoming engaged to a woman, custom dictates that you stay apart from her for a year so that you can build your dream home and then, three months in you find out she is pregnant! You would likely feel betrayed, sad, offended, enraged, bitter, just to name a few emotions! These are the things that Joseph was feeling at this time and yet, he was concerned with Mary’s reputation! He didn’t want to call her out in front of the whole town and tell everyone she was an adulterous!! What a humble heart Joseph displayed. It was this precise heart attitude that caused God almighty to send a messenger to Joseph. The angel came without any provocation or plea by Joseph for direction from God! In other words, Joseph didn’t go to God and ask Him what should be done about the situation. God was drawn to Joseph automatically because Joseph had a soft and humble heart! Let us remember this when we are facing a situation -any situation. God is repelled by pride or fullness but is drawn to emptiness. Let us empty ourselves of ourselves at all times and at all costs in order that we might draw the Holy One more intimately toward us. Let us also have ears to hear what the word of wisdom will say to us when He draws near that we may be bold and confident knowing that we had nothing to do with the wisdom we have heard, that it was the grace of God through faith that brought it to us!!
