Fruit and seed

Seed and fruit

    Genesis 1:12-

“And the earth brought four grass, the herb that yields seed according to its kind, and the tree that yields fruit, whose seed is in itself according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.”

The word for “seed” used here in Genesis 1:12 means “child” and it is from a root word that promotes the idea of conceiving seed. Everything that God created to reproduce {vegetation, animals} then bears fruit- or creates children. The fruit or children then have their own seed contained in themselves so that they can eventually reproduce as well.

According to Luke 8:11, however vegetation and animals are not the only created things that are seeds. Jesus says in Luke 8:11 that words are seeds. If therefore words are the seeds then the words must be planted to bear fruit and when it bears fruit the fruit that it bears has more seed in it. The seed however is not isolated to the word of God but words themselves are seeds. All words are seeds. That is why Scripture states that death and life are in the power of the tongue and those that love it shall eat the fruit thereof and that a man will be satisfied by the fruit of his mouth Proverbs 12:14, Proverbs 13:2, Proverbs 18:20. All words are seeds that bear fruit. We speak a word and it bears fruit - meaning it comes to pass. Then the fruit has more seed in it. Example: a man goes to work and has a negative encounter with his boss. He is frustrated and believes his boss is wrong and is being a jerk. He comes home and tells his wife about the situation. This man truly believes three things when he tells his wife the story:

  1. That what happened is absolutely true and beyond contestation because it absolutely happened.

  2. That his boss was wrong and is wrong

  3. That his boss was being and is a jerk

Because the man believes these three things and then speaks to his wife about them, he has just sown more seeds that will cause another situation where he will have a negative encounter with his boss. This is the fruit of what he shared with his wife and this fruit will carry with it more seed to produce another situation that is the same as the previous two. It is a cycle and there is only one way to stop it.

1 Peter 3:10 says “He who would love life and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from speaking evil, and his lips from speaking deceit.” Evil here means anything that is lacking, and deceit actually means bait! No wonder the word says in Proverbs 6:2 that we are snared by the words of our lips! Even to speak about the evil that happens in the world without washing it with the word of God will create more evil. It will become bait. The bait of satan to wreak havoc in our lives and bring death that we will swallow hook, line, and sinker. We are so easily ensnared by our own mouths because we do not see how “telling the truth” about events that transpire is speaking evil. We are darkened in our understanding in that we believe that speaking evil is restricted only to curse words, outbursts of wrath, and vengeful, hateful talk toward a person in the heat of anger. We must open our eyes and our minds to the fact that speaking evil includes speaking about anything that does not line up with the will of God in our lives or in the lives of others. Evil is evil and when we speak about it- whether it occurred or not- will manifest fruit that will, in itself have more seed and the cycle continues.

In conclusion, to see good days and enjoy your life, refrain your tongue from speaking any form of evil and keep your lips from speaking about the deceit presented to mankind by the wicked one.
